THE SCENOGRAPHER’S OPERA AT TEATRU ASTRA

The Scenographer’s Opera takes place at Teatru Astra in Victoria, Gozo on Sunday 25 October 2026, with the exhibition open from 11:00 to 21:00. Presented as part of Opera is Gozo 2026, the exhibition celebrates Joseph Cauchi’s 30-year journey as the theatre’s opera scenographer and looks back at the visual worlds created for some of Teatru Astra’s major opera productions.

The exhibition showcases a selection of Cauchi’s acclaimed sets while offering visitors an insight into the creativity, craftsmanship and work involved in bringing large-scale opera scenography to the stage. It also pays tribute to Cauchi’s longstanding leadership of Teatru Astra’s volunteer-based scenography team, highlighting the collaborative effort behind many of the theatre’s memorable productions.

For audiences interested in opera, theatre design and the work that happens behind the scenes, the exhibition offers a different perspective on three decades of productions at Teatru Astra. Entry is free.
