About the Event
On Monday 6 July 2026 at 20:00, the Malta Jazz Festival opens with the Dominic Galea Quartet, presenting a tribute to Maltese jazz composers at Valletta Campus Theatre. The concert highlights a defining period in Malta’s jazz history, focusing on works from the late 1960s through to the early 1980s, including the era of Charles “City” Gatt.
The programme features compositions by Charles Camilleri, Ray Agius, Antoine Bonnici Soler, Lino Cauchi, Paul Abela and Sammy Galea, alongside original works by Dominic Galea. Bringing these pieces into a contemporary live setting, the performance offers both a retrospective and a reinterpretation of Malta’s jazz identity, opening the festival with a strong focus on local composition and heritage.
