About the Event
Folk Underground runs on Wednesdays from 1 July to 28 October 2026 at Sala San Duminku in Valletta, with intimate performances taking place beneath the city in a vaulted underground setting. The programme invites audiences into the world of għana, Malta’s traditional folk song form, combining storytelling, acoustic guitar and powerful vocal performance. Featuring celebrated folk masters alongside emerging voices, the experience reveals a musical tradition that is often heard in village bars and local communities, but less often presented in this kind of dedicated performance setting. Looking for a traditional Maltese music event in Valletta on Wednesdays? Folk Underground offers a rare cultural experience built around Maltese folk music, humour, emotion, storytelling and the living roots of the islands’ musical heritage. Each performance lasts around 45 minutes, creating a focused and atmospheric journey into song, story and guitar beneath the streets of Valletta.
